IS Envoy Urges Liberian Diplomats To Be Innovative In Career

MONROVIA, Feb 11 (LINA) – The American Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, Mr. Micheal A. McCarthy, has challenged Liberian diplomats to be innovated in their foreign mission services.

Ambassador McCarthy stated that diplomatic relationship has changed over the years from just relationship to business and investment diplomacy.

Ambassador McCarthy made the statement Wednesday in Monrovia at the occasion marking the formal launching of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Intensive Training Program for foreign service officers-designate.

According to him, foreign service diplomats have been engaging host nations investors and civil society organizations actors to foster investments in Liberia in the private sector.

He stressed the need for Liberian diplomats to enhance their capacities with knowledge relating to investment diplomacy to promote the image of Liberia in the private sector abroad.

The American diplomat indicated that America is entering 60 years of its development partnership with Liberia through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

He maintained that there is need to strengthen Liberia and America relationship further to provide new opportunities that could benefits the two countries and peoples.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah said restructuring the Liberian Foreign Service is a key element of the reform process going on at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Kemayah noted the Intensive Training Program is intended to prepare foreign service officers-designate to understand the significance of diplomacy to enhance results for foreign mission.

He asserted that from henceforth all Foreign Service officers will go through the intensive training relating to economic diplomacy.

According to him, this is intended to ensure maximum returns from the foreign mission adventure of the country.

Minister Kemayah emphasized that to further strengthen the reform process at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will require the necessary budgetary support from the National Legislature.
