Kumasi, Jan. 22, GNA – The Management of Asante Kotoko S/C, has said their midfield dynamo, Kwame Bonsu, was properly registered by the club and is eligible to feature for the Porcupine Warriors in their Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) Confederations Cup campaign.

« We went through the proper processes in securing the release and registration of the player and therefore, he is eligible to play for us in all officially sanctioned matches, » Mr. George Amoako, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), told the media in Kumasi.

Reacting to purported reports that Cameroonian club, Coton Sport F/C of Garoua, plans to file for protest against Kotoko, for fielding the said player in their Confederations Cup clash, he said those reports were being treated with the contempt they deserved.

« We believe this is only a ploy to shift attention from our mission to make an impact in the CAF-organized competition, » he noted.

Bonsu, 24, a former player of Swedish club, IF Gafle, signed a three-year contractual deal with Kotoko in the latter part of 2018.

He was very instrumental in the second leg of Kotoko’s match against the Cameroonians, which saw the Porcupine Warriors winning 5-3 on aggregate to qualify for the Group Stage of the competition.

The two-time African champions are currently paired in Group ‘C’, alongside Sudan’s Al-Hilal, as well as Zesco United and Nkana F/C, all of Zambia.

Kotoko, would be playing Al-Hilal on February 3, this year, as they begin the quest to annex the continental trophy for the first time since 1983.

Mr. Amoako, said their hard work was yielding results, stressing that they had over the past five months been focused on the African campaign.

« Kotoko is working progressively towards the set target. Management is as such calling on all stakeholders to come on board, » he told the media.
