Accra, Sept. 10, GNA – The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF), Liaison Team, has rallied support for the national U-17 national team, Black Starlets, in their quest to qualify for the Africa U-17 Championship to be hosted by Tanzania.
The Black Starlets, have booked qualification to the semi finals of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B competition, after defeating Togo 2-1 last Saturday and are set to meet Cote D’ Ivoire in the semi finals.
A press statement signed by Mr. Dan Kweku Yeboah, spokesperson for FIFA/CAF Liaison team, congratulated the twinkle little stars of Ghana for recording a remarkable victory against the West African rivals.
It reads, « the Liaison team congratulates the Black Starlets of Ghana for your 2-1 victory over neighbouring Togo. You advertised the Ghanaian brand of football and secured a hard-fought victory in grand style.
« Bear in mind that qualification for the Africa U-17 championship and eventually the world cup is the ultimate goal. The Government and the good people of Ghana are solidly behind you, » the statement said.
The statement also urged the senior national team, the Black Stars, to put their recent defeat against Kenya behind and work hard towards their qualification.
« We remain hopeful that with your usual perseverance, the hard lessons picked from this loss would propel us to victory in the subsequent matches.
« We take motivation in the fact, despite the painful loss, you dominated and exhibited strength in many areas of the game, » the statement said.
