BO WATERSIDE, Aug. 25 (LINA) – As the border between Liberia and Sierra Leone remains closed as a measure against the COVID-19 disease, the Joint Security assigned at the Bo Port of Entry warns citizens of both countries to avoid illegal crossing.
Speaking to newsmen recently at his Bo Waterside office, the Chairman of the Joint Security assigned at the Port, Major Saxon Tambo, said as far as his office is concerned the border remains closed and there should be no crossing by travellers to and fro.
Major Tambo, who earlier stopped several Sierra Leoneans from crossing back to their country, said the security forces are executing a straight mandate from the authorities of both sides of the border not to allow people to cross the frontier.
The Chairman of the Joint Security in Bo Waterside further clarified that the border is only open to diplomats and essential cargos with basic commodities from both countries.
He added that they are not going to take it lightly with people who want to enter the country or want to leave illegally.
As a means of aiding the security agencies in policing the border, Major Tambo is t calling on the people living long the Liberia side to report any strange person they see in their communities.
Meanwhile, Major Tambo is calling on the national government to assist the security with mobility such as motorbikes and vehicles to enable them carry out night patrol at some of these illegal crossing points.
Both Liberia and Sierra Leone closed their border back in March 2020 as a means of controlling the spread of the Coronavirus which has ravaged the entire world.
