MONROVIA, January 11 (LINA) – The Liberia Cartographic Service (LCS) at the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy (MLME) has surveyed 66,255.49 hectares of land for the Putu Iron Ore Mining Company (PIOM) and Sime Darby Plantation (SDP).
According to the MLME 2014 annual report released recently, the surveys are a result of an agreement the two concessionaires entered into with the MLME in May 2012.
The report stated that the MLME surveyed 20,000 hectares of land for the SDP and 46,255.49 for PIOM.
The report added that in 2013, the MLME, through the LCS, surveyed 8,035.07 hectares, noting that the survey and mapping of an additional 11,964.93 hectares completed the 20,000 hectares of land stipulated in the SDP agreement.
According to the report, in anticipation of a Class ‘A’ Mining License, the PIOM requested the ministry to survey its Proposed Production Area, adding that the LCS surveyed and produced a map of the area of 46,255.69 acres.
