MTN Foundation to close entries for Heroes of Change

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA – Management of MTN Ghana Foundation has announced it will close submission of entries for MTN Heroes of Change Season Five on January 18, 2019.
A statement issued in Accra by Samuel Koranteng, the Corporate Services Executive, MTN Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, reminded the public to nominate individuals who are making positive difference in their communities through various projects or exceptional social work for the MTN Heroes of Change Season Five.
The statement said after the close of submission, all projects received would be reviewed and shortlisted, adding that shortlisted projects will be pruned to 100 and thereafter to 40 and finally to 10.
« A team will then be dispatched into the communities to authenticate the stories of nominees. The stories of the top 10 finalists will be filmed and featured in a 13-week television show or series after which a grand finale event will be held to announce the winners of the various categories, » it added.
The ultimate winner will receive a cash price of GH¢100,000 and category winners would be awarded GHC30,000 each to be invested in their projects for wider impact, while the rest of the six heroes will each be given GHC10,000 to support their projects.
Mr Koranteng, commenting on the MTN Heroes of Change Season 5, said « We want to honour and showcase the work of the many unsung heroes in the communities, who are usually not recognised for their work. So we want the public to nominate ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities. »
He said the special category, which was introduced in Season Four, had been revised in Season Five to include youth advocates, journalists, radio and television presenters, musicians, actors and sports personalities.
Mr Koranteng explained that the winners in the category would each receive a citation and monetary reward, which will be invested in any Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of their choice.
He said the final selection of winners of the MTN Heroes of Change would be done by an independent panel of judges with diverse experiences and expertise.
MTN Heroes of Change Season Five was launched in November 2018. Since the inception of MTN Heroes of Change in July 2013, a 40 people have been identified and recognised on the platform for committing their personal resources to improve their communities and brighten lives.
MTN Heroes of Change has won several awards including the 2016 IPR Best Community Relations Programme of the Year and CSR Programme of the Year 2015 by the Head of State Awards Scheme.
