MONROVIA,Feb. 13 ( LINA) – The Director of the National Cadet Program (NCP ) at the Ministry of Youth and Sports ( MYS), Samuel Mappy, has applauded Mercy Corps and the Swedish government for their support to the Cadet Program which is providing empowerment opportunities to young Liberians.

Mercy Crops Liberia, a leading global organization which is partnering with communities, businesses, government, and individuals, completed a two-day dialogue on Youth Apprenticeship Placement and Sustainable Platform to share the experiences and lessons learned from an apprenticeship program implementedby the Promoting Sustainable Partnership for Economic Transformations(PROSPECT).

Speaking at the dialogue, which was held in Monrovia recently, Mappy stated that the program sole aim is to help participants understand the role of the Swedish government-funded program PROSPECTS and how it is achieving its goals and lessons gained when considering the design of future programs for youth empowerment.

“The NCP with support from the Swedish government through Mercy Corps has empowered about 479 young Liberians through the program with an estimated 281 personsbeing employed,” Mappy said.

According to him, the PROSPECTS program, which is being implemented by Mercy Corps Liberia, is targeting 20,000 young people in the country, including 11,000 young people in Montserrado, Bong and Nimba counties who have benefited so far.

At the same time, Mercy Corp’s Employment and Entrepreneurship Manager, Wah S. Ajavon, said Liberian youth face unimaginable challenges in the search for job opportunities.
