Accra, May 26, GNA – Nestle Ghana Limited has presented tricycles, nose masks and picking tools to the Pure Water Waste Collectors Association to help in their operations.

The donation includes 15,000 picking tools and 1,220 nose masks to support the Association to safely collect more plastic waste from the communities and support the livelihood of members.

Madam Philomena Tan, the Managing Director of Nestle Ghana, who presented the items through the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, said the world had been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the situation called for the revision and adaptation of actions that would help in confronting existing challenges.

She said in November 2019, the company signed a partnership with the Association with the Ministry overseeing the agreement, hence the donation of the tricycles.

“I am proud to say that with our first input of five tricycles, we have collected over 380 tons of plastic from our communities in Accra to recycling points.”

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Sector Minister, said the nose masks would help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

He commended Nestle Ghana for the support, which started last year and replicated this year, adding that the tricycles would be used efficiently to achieve the intended purpose.

Mr Elvis Oppong, the President of the Pure Water Waste Collectors Association, commended the Ministry and Nestle Ghana for the support.

He said the logistics and the tricycles would go a long way to support them in their operations.

He said since the first five tricycles were given, the Association had ensured their efficient utilisation and that the group would continue to take good care of the new ones.
