Praia, Feb 14 (Inforpress) – The new Chief Justice of Military Court, Colonel António Jorge Silva Rocha, sworn in today by the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, said that he takes up his duties with the challenge of adapting institutions to modern times.
Speaking to journalists after took office, Colonel António Jorge Silva said that the Armed Forces now have a new Penal Code and a new Code of Criminal Procedure, so many laws have to do with justice in general and military justice in particular that have been updated.
In addition, he added, at the international level “the security context has completely changed”, with the existence of a new typology of crimes that, in his view, will compel military courts, globally, to adapt.
Colonel António Jorge Silva Rocha also stated that Cabo Verde is a country that intends to participate in peace support missions, a type of mission that, according to him, is attributed to the Armed Forces by the Constitution and other laws of the Republic.
