Pedra Badejo, Sep 16 (Inforpress) – Rainfall over the weekend across the country has renewed hope of farmers in North Santiago, bringing water to the region’s dams, especially Poilão, in São Lourenço dos Órgãos, that was dry.
The rains, which for three years have not fallen in abundance as seen in recent days, have caused some damage, such as road cuts, wall collapses and floods, but the feeling of the countrymen is of joy.
After three consecutive years of drought, they again saw water running in the streams and all the dams in the region, namely the Poilão, in the municipality of São Lourenço dos Órgãos, Saquinho, Santa Catarina, Faveta, São Salvador do Mundo, Flamengos and Ribeira de Principal, in São Miguel, and Figueira Gorda, Santa Cruz, to retain the waters resulting from the floods.
In the municipality of Santa Cruz, several families dawned today on the hillsides to sow seeds on the wet land, because the municipality had not yet rained enough, making many farmers wait for more rain to sow, for fear of losing the few seeds remaining, due to three years of drought. However, those who sowed earlier can already start weeding, because the corn has already been born and the slope is covered with green straw.
