Achada Igreja, Feb 4 (Inforpress) – The Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), inaugurated on Monday the hydro-agricultural use system of the Faveta and Figueira Gorda dams, which will allow farmers to have water for irrigation.
The act of the inauguration of the referred project, which will allow 82 farmers in Faveta and 105 in Figueira Gorda to have water for irrigation, was chaired by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, and mayors of the City Halls of São Salvador do Mundo and Santa Cruz, Ângelo Vaz and Carlos Silva, respectively.
The work on the Faveta dam, in São Salvador do Mundo, cost 105 million escudos and covers 52 hectares of irrigated area and in Figueira Gorda, in Santa Cruz, around 78 million escudos and plans to cover 335 hectares of irrigated area.
The hydro-agricultural use project, downstream of the dams at national level, budgeted at more than 200 million escudos, according to the MAA, is a “very important investment” for the valorization of the water existing in the dams.
