MONROVIA, June 12 (LINA) – Police have arrested and detained a man believed to be in his 40s on the charge of criminal abortion, resulting to the death of a 16 year- old girl in the suburb of New Life Community in Voinjama, Lofa County.

Suspect Thompson A. Kollie was picked up by the Crime Services Division (CSD) of the Lofa County detachment of the Liberia National Police on Sunday, June 9, following a tip-off that he had criminally aborted the two-month pregnancy of the victim (name withheld),  resulting to her death.

The CSD Commander of the Lofa County Police detachment, James Taylor, told reporters at the headquarters in Voinjama on June 10 that upon the arrival of the LNP in the New Life Community, the lifeless body of the victim was discovered lying on her stomach with white fluid oozing from her mouth at the residence of nurse Kollie.

Commander Taylor also told reporters that following preliminary investigation suspect Kollie, who is a graduate (2017-2018) of the Nursing Department of the Free Pentecostal College on the outskirts of Voinjama City and also a registered Nurse, admitted treating the girl but denied aborting her pregnancy as alleged.

Kollie is expected to be sent to the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Voinjama for prosecution.
