Nursing and Midwifery training institutions asked to upgrade programmes to degree

  17 Février      15        Santé (9586),

Accra, Feb.17, GNA-The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Ghana, has asked all Nursing and Midwifery training institutions to upgrade their diploma training programs to degree.

Mr Felix Nyante, Registrar of the Council, said the upgrade had become necessary to improve nursing and midwifery care to meet the changing healthcare needs of the public.

He was speaking at a credentialing forum held by the Council to access and validate operating standards of training institutions before accrediting them.

Mr Nyante said credentialing was done to determine issues needed to be addressed in training institutions and served as a means of promoting quality improvement mechanism in the institutions.

He hinted that plans were afoot to categorise nursing and midwifery training institutions and universities.

Mr Nyante said the initiative was to introduce healthy competition among the institutions and challenge them to strive to be the best.

A five- member panel at the forum assessed the Catholic University College, and the FLOSAM Institute of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Sciences.

Issues identified, include the need for the two training institutions to expand their computer laboratories, provide students with more spacious classrooms and provide adequate office cabinet for tutors.
