Accra, Aug 9, GNA-Fisherfolks at the Osu Beach behind the Castle would for the first time, benefit from the construction of a fish market and a storage facility to enhance their trading activities and improve the living conditions of the people.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE)for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) Nii Adjei Tawiah made this observation at a short ceremony to commence the dredging of the Osu Klottey Lagoon.
He said the clearing of the place to make it more attractive for the leisure purposes was the rationale for the dredging exercise and the clearing of the garbage alongside to rid the location of filth.
‘’For the first time in the annals of the locality, government through the Assembly, is going to invest in the occupational trade of the residents to improve their living conditions and create job opportunities for the youth in the area,’’ said Nii Adjei Tawiah
He explained that there would be a sod-cutting ceremony by the Assembly, in September this year, to signal the commencement of the project.
According to him, the Assembly had plans to give the Osu beach a facelift to bring it closer to what pertains in other beaches along the coast.
He said the Assembly would invest a lot in the area to ensure the place was clean and suitable to be used for leisure purposes and recreational activities to provide additional jobs for the youth in the area.
Nii Tawiah said as part of the beautification strategy the Assembly also planned to construct chalets and in future convert the lagoon for recreational and leisure activities by putting a speed boat on it.
He stated that « all these projects would come to fruition if the residents are ready to co-operate with the Assembly. »
