Takoradi, Jan. 19, GNA- Many Parents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have expressed disquiets in the spike of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reopening of schools.
With case upsurge and the STMA recording 90 and the Western Region 150 active cases, most parents wished their children stayed at home to avoid contracting the virus.
Mr Kwasi Frimpong, a parent feared the children may not adhere to the physical distancing order in the schools as they would meet their friends after so many months of school closure.
He, therefore, called on the teachers to help in observing the safety protocols.
Mrs Caroline Agyeman, who has a nine-year-old son at primary school and a 13-year-old daughter at the JHS said she does not agree with the reopening of schools but has no other option than to bring her kids to school because she cannot afford a home teacher for them.
Other parents called for regulations on the public transportation system to promote safety.
On the other hand, some parents and teachers lauded reopening.
Mrs Akua Amoateng a mother and a teacher at the Golden Gate Adventist preparatory and JHS said she was happy and relieved that the children were back to school
« These children have stayed at home for a pretty good time and need to return to the classrooms to learn », she added.
Mr John Mensah, said, « the children should be kept in schools with all the COVID-19 protocols carefully observed than for them to be home all day without learning anything ».
