PIH Hands Over Newly-Renovated Pharmacy At J. J. Dossen Hospital

  8 Novembre      107        Santé (15362),

HARPER, Nov. 4 (LINA) – Partners In Health-Liberia (PIH) has handed over to local health authorities the newly-renovated Pharmacy at the James Jenkins Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County as part of efforts to address storage constraints at the facility.

The renovation, according to a release, was prompted by the lack of sufficient space which made it difficult to store the available and needed quantity of medication and other medical supplies at the only government referral hospital in the county for medium and long-term operations.

To ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operations of the hospital, the global health organization has in the last few months committed itself to the full renovation of a vacant building on the hospital’s premises to expand the storage capacity of the facility.

The refurbished annex will accommodate large quantities of health commodities to meet the increasing demand at the facility.

The initiative, according to a PIH release, is intended to augment the service delivery program of the hospital and improve the quality of healthcare by guaranteeing the availability of medicines, medical supplies and diagnostics at the Hospital.

In response, Maryland County Health Officer (CHO), Dr. Methodius George, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude to PIH for the partnership that has led to “significant improvement of the county’s health system over the years.

Dr. George described PIH as “a true partner” whose objective is to ensure a transformed health delivery service in the county and the country at large, assuring that the newly-refurbished facility will be used for its intended purpose.

It can be recalled that recently Partners In Health (PIH) with funding from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) constructed and handed over a 2 cubic yard de Montfort Incinerator with a 377.91 Square Foot Shelter, comprising of a 59.50 square feet Mini Sorting Compartment to the J. J. Dossen Hospital.

The project is one among several others undertaken by PIH to improve the county’s health system.

The J. J. Dossen Memorial Hospital was established in 1958 to address the medical needs of southeastern counties, especially Maryland.
