MONROVIA, June 16 (LINA) – Montserrado District Number 8 Representative, Acarous Gray, has been vindicated by the police investigation in connection with the alleged assault of the manager of the Shai-Town Bar on 9th Street Sinkor, during the night of June 5.

According to the police, they established from the accounts of eyewitnesses, including a staff of the bar, that at no time during the altercation did Rep. Gray order the flogging of victim Joseph Boy Cooper.

Cooper earlier alleged that he was flogged on the orders of Rep. Gray and accused the police of reneging to charge the lawmaker.

The police have rather charged Dargbh Jugbe, 32, with simple assault, criminal mischief, and terroristic threat for allegedly injuring complainant Cooper and he is due to appear in court for trial, according to the police.

But police spokesman Moses Carter told the Liberia News Agency that the investigative report also revealed that while Rep. Gray and Cooper were in verbal exchange, Jugbe, a resident of Capitol Bye-Pass, confronted Cooper to lower his voice “since he (Cooper) was talking to an honorable man.”

Accordingly, the investigation revealed, while the suspect attempted calming Cooper, he hit the suspect in the left eye with a finger ring on his right hand, leaving the suspect with bruises.

“The situation led to the suspect’s outburst, thereby hitting Cooper on his hand which resulted to an injury,” the report said.

The police also found suspect Jugbe to have broken into the glass door of the bar in search of Cooper.

Jugbe does not work with Rep. Gray neither did Gray take him along to the entertainment center, the report further says.

Meanwhile, with couple of evidences of the victim and witnesses’ accounts, police have charged suspect Jugbe with multiple offenses in violation of Chapter 14, Subchapter ‘B’ Section 14.21; Chapter 15 Subchapter ‘A’, Section 15.5, and Chapter 14.24 of the Revised Penal Code of Liberia.
