MONROVIA, Feb. 6 (LINA) -The Liberian leader, Dr. George Manneh Weah, has welcomed the decision by the President of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, to build FIFA standard stadiums all across Africa.

On his official Tweeter page on Tuesday, February 4, President Weah said: « I fully welcome and support the initiative by FIFA President and I want to thank him for his farsightedness and for undertaking such initiative which I believe will enhance the game of soccer in Africa and the world.”

In November 2019 at the 80th anniversary celebrations of TP Mazembe, a professional football club based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the President of the football world governing body announced plans to raise US$1billion to build at least one stadium meeting FIFA’s standard in each African country.

Infantino stressed that FIFA wants African football to shine and so the body will work with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and other stakeholders to improve refereeing, infrastructure and competitions on the continent, adding that “we want to bring Africa to the highest of heights and show the world the outstanding talents and amazingly gifted players your continent possesses.”

The comments and subsequent promise from the FIFA President seems to amaze Weah, who himself has made more contributions to the global sport of soccer.

President Weah writes: “As a former FIFA world player and now President of the Republic of Liberia, I will do all I can to support this great initiative for the improvement of sports.”
