MONROVIA, Sept. 26 (LINA) – President George M. Weah has commended Liberians at home and abroad for the overwhelming support accorded him during his participation in the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Hundreds of Liberians dwelling in the US, CDCians, and well-wishers, on Thursday September 22, gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, well appareled in their CDC paraphernalia to render support to their President whilst Liberians home were additionally jubilating.
Pres. Weah said his 5th participation at the UNGA was an honor to represent Liberia at the worldwide gatherings, in particular at the United Nations, adding that he has been maintained with magnificent respect.
« But I would be remiss not to particularly thank Liberians in the U.S, the leadership and members of Liberian organizations; the leadership and members of the CDC, friends, and well-wishers who turned out in their numbers to render their utmost approval. Basking in their support was a moment of national pride, for which we remain grateful,” the Liberian leader noted.
« I am also grateful to all my compatriots back home and around the world who kept us in their prayers and wished the delegation well, » Pres. Weah expressed.
During his speech at the assembly, President Weah highlighted the progress that Liberia has made over the years, and the challenges his administration is tackling, also presenting the country’s position on pressing global matters.
The 77th session of the UN General Assembly opened on 13 September under the theme, “A watershed moment: Transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.”
The theme stems from the recognition that the world is at a critical moment in the history of the United Nations due to complex and interconnected crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, humanitarian challenges of unprecedented nature, a tipping point in climate change as well as growing concerns about threats to the global economy.
The UN General Assembly is the main policy making organ of the Organization, comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations.
