MONROVIA, 03 Aug, (LINA) – As Liberian Muslims observe Abraham Day Friday, President Dr. George Manneh Weah has paid tribute to Muslims across the country on the occasion marking the Day.

Abraham Day is an important Islamic Holy Day around the world, celebrating the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command.

The holy day is marked by prayers and cattle sacrifices reminiscent of the Prophet Abraham’s act of obedience to Allah.

President Weah, in his message, urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for continued peace and stability in Liberia, especially at a time when the country is battling the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said his administration is committed to ensuring that there is a conducive environment for all Liberians to peacefully co-exist and exercise their rights, including freedom of religion, as guaranteed by the Liberian Constitution.

The Liberian leader said Muslims have played a pivotal role in the country’s development over the years which is deserving of commendation.

Meanwhile, President Weah has instructed that Muslims who are part of the country’s civil service are granted excuse from work this Friday as they observe the day’s rituals.
