MONROVIA, May 18 (LINA) – It appeared the President is, though moderately, fed up with acts on the part some opposition figures who may be seeking to “sabotage” development efforts being made under his leadership since he took office in 2018.
President George Manneh Weah said it was no mistake that Liberians popularly voted the CDC to power in 2017 “to take the people from poverty to prosperity.” Though, he said, this requires a little bit of patience and resilience to fully deal with the immense challenges.
As political leader of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), President Weah was delivering a speech Friday in the populous Borough of New Kru Town on Bushrod Island at the party’s primaries to choose their Representative and Senatorial candidates for the ensuing by-elections in Montserrado County.
He said CDC was determined to transform the country, and nothing less, making reference to the steady achievement of the deliverables within the Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) such as the ambitious road and energy infrastructures, housing, friendly business climate, and path towards agriculture development.
Moreover, the President, attired in an all-blue African suit to depict the party’s colors, said the only reason why some people would incite a few others against the government will be because “those people were defeated and they don’t want [you] to lead. What they did not show in twelve years is what you are doing. »
“As always, I stand before you as a unifier, a peacemaker; let it be clear, however, to those who say they want to ‘save the state’ that the State has been saved already. We are repairing what they have spoiled,” President Weah told thousands of supporters at the primaries.
Nonetheless, the Liberian leader recognized that there are social challenges posed by some semblance of economic downturn, but indicated his government was working ‘tremendously’ to resolve those challenges.
He had earlier called on Liberians to work in unison to address the longstanding issues confronting the country as a way of moving it forward and not brewing division.
Meanwhile, in the CDC primaries for Montserrado, Paulita Wie emerged as winner of the ticket for the Senate, hoping to replace former party chairwoman Geraldine Doe-Sherrif whose death caused the vacancy.
Abu Kamara will now run on the party’s ballot in District 15, likewise hoping to fill the gap left by fallen partisan, Adolph Lawrence.
