Accra 9, GNA – Thousands of mourners thronged the premises of Tema Central Assemblies of God church for the final funeral rites of the slain Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado.
The gathering, made up of members of Assemblies of God Church and other churches in and outside Ghana, mourned a man who was said to have been brutally murdered by his own nephew, Francis Nabegmado under mysterious circumstances.
In a sermon during the burial service at the Tema Central Assemblies of God Church on Saturday, the General Superintendent of AG, observed that a Christian had a destiny and therefore there was no need to mourn on the demise of the believer.
He said believers should not think about the departure of a Christian but his arrival in the next life, « Thinking about departure brings pain; thinking about arrival brings joy and peace. »
Rev. Professor Paul Frimpong Manso pleaded with the family of Rev. Dr. Nabegmado to forgive the man who killed the clergy because his death had brought hope which was the fact that he had gone to heaven.
He informed that « death was not a cessation of existence but a transition because there is eternity in after human life. »
He said death was either a separation of man from man or man from God and that man should be afraid of the separation from God which was the worst death a man could endure.
Prof. Frimpong Manso, who is also the General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charistic Council, observed that there were many problems in the world and the problems would continue, but those problems are only to strengthen us and « help us to conform to the image of Christ. »
He therefore asked Christians to do away with the notion that everything will be fine when one became a Christian adding that « the most important thing is to know where you are going. »
He mourned the church for having stopped preaching the second coming of Christ but rather pursuing the pleasures of the world.
In an interview with the GNA, Former President John Dramani Mahama told of how well the death of the Rev. Nabegmado shocked him by saying, « He visited me few weeks before his death to inform me of the passing of Rev. Azore, so it has really affected me. »
In a tribute read for him, the former president expressed his condolences and prayed God’s strength during this difficult time.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Annan-La, in a tribute described the slained man of God as « a worthy and patriotic son. The grace of God upon his life was phenomenal. »
Mr. Nii La said he led an exemplary life with the massive infrastructure at the church premises attesting to his vision.
« He availed himself to community initiatives and partnered the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) in sanitation and other activities.
Rev. Dr. Nabegmado was born on November 28, 1954 in Yankazia, Saboba Chereponi District, Northern Ghana, and joined the clergy at a tender age of 17.
After that he held different positions in the Assemblies of God Church until his final assignment as head pastor of Tema Central Assemblies of God, a position he held since 1991.
Reverend Dr. Nabegmado was allegedly killed by his nephew whilst he was preparing to give his closing sermon for the year 2018.
