Praia, Feb 20 (Inforpress) – A part of Cabo Verde’s taekwondo team left this Tuesday from the city of Praia to Rabat (Morocco), where it will join three practitioners residing in the USA, to the qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Cabo Verde coach, Swiss Cedric Barros, told Inforpress that part of the Cabo Verdean delegation, consisting by him and the only resident athlete, Sanderson Vicente, will receive the others athletes from the USA in Rabat, as a way to minimize the costs.
From the United States of America, thetaekwondo athlete Maria “Zezinha” Andrade (Olympic athlete) and the international Sofia Reis and Nicalas Fernandes will reinforce the Cabo Verdean national team.
Cedric Barros said that the selected Cabo Verdean athletes are “well prepared” and highly focused on winning the races at stake, as this is the only way to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
He stated that although the training sessions were held in two parts, one in the USA for athletes residing there and the other one in Cabo Verde for Sanderson Vicente, the only resident, all athletes were submitted to intensive training through a plan developed jointly so that Cabo Verde could triumph in this African showcase.
