Tanga Multimedia honours medical doctor

  4 Juillet      41        Société (47746), Téchnologie (909),

Accra, July 4, GNA – Tanga Multimedia, Operators of Tanga Radio in Bolgatanga has honoured Dr Samuel Aborah, a medical officer at the Regional Hospital for his dedication to duty and contribution to quality health delivery in the region.
The initiative was part of activities marking the 5th Anniversary of the organisation which was established on July 30, 2013.
Mr Rashid Bawa Agana, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tanga Multimedia, at a brief ceremony to honour the doctor, said « it takes a dedicated person to serve and work for humanity, and to accept posting to an area where colleagues and even natives refused to be posted ».
He said the honour was to communicate to the world that « no matter where you are or whatever you are doing as a professional, society puts a satellite on you and expects you to deliver with humility ».
The CEO noted that most people fall short in their line of duty considering the pressure society mounts on them, and observed that Dr Aborah had proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he placed human life above everything.
Mr Agana said « we at Tanga Radio, having monitored your struggles from afar, together with civil society and stakeholders in the region and beyond, thought it wise to express our profound gratitude to you this day ».
He disclosed that the organisation’s choice of the doctor stemmed from its interactions with people in and around the communities, staff of the facility and stakeholders in the health sector.
Mr Agana expressed worry about the perception a section of the public has about the media as « carriers of bad news », adding that Tanga Radio among others was not only to educate, entertain and inform, but also to give credit to where it was due.
Mr Frank Fuseini Adongo, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency, observed that the inadequate number of medical doctors in the region was a key challenge that confronted quality health care delivery.
« Very often, doctors posted to the region fail to report and the few that report do not stay for long. The underlying factor is the location of our region, which some see as deprived and will not benefit them personally if they accepted posting here ». He said.
Mr Adongo who also presented an undisclosed cheque to the doctor, said « many of our own brethren also refuse to accept postings here to serve their own people whose toil contributed to their education. We in this part of the country therefore have to suffer the benefits of the national cake supply because of our vocation ».
He commended the medical doctor whom he said was not a son of the region for his dedication and service to the region for over a decade under same conditions others refused to work, adding that « we need to applaud such display of humanitarianism. »
Dr Aborah thanked management of the hospital, the Chiefs and people of the area, and the Upper East Regional Health Directorate for the support and kind gesture shown to him over the years.
He said « The award will continue to motivate me and my co-workers to continue to diligently serve the people of the Upper East Region », and called on other corporate institutions and management of the Ghana Health Service to institute award schemes to motivate hardworking staff.
