Accra, Sept 12, GNA – For 25 years, Ghana’s National Theatre has stood as a citadel of the arts – a focal point for both national and international artistic endeavors and entertainment.

The month of September holds a truck load of theatrical activities for the National Theatre of Ghana, unique space for varied theatrical products of excellence, beginning on Monday, September 24, to Sunday, September 30.

Theatre Festival is a special event of the National Theatre which takes place annually in every September, and involves its prestigious resident performing groups, other professional and amateur groups.

It is a program to celebrate innovation in the performing and visual arts and also promotes cultural awareness among the youth and to prepare them to play their role in the cultural life of their communities.

Events lined up for the festival include theatre programmes for schools, fashion shows, art exhibitions, dance-drama, drama, symposia, film shows, poetry night and a special evening of classical music and comedy.

Other events are a « Food Bazaar » and a made in « Ghana Fair » to showcase authentic artefacts and other made in Ghana products. This is to do with the government’s policy of creating awareness about the need to patronize made-in Ghana products.

The festival would be heralded by a performance featuring all the three resident groups of the National Theatre on Tuesday at 1900 hours and without doubt, this is going to be a real thriller.

Main productions during the weekend would start from 1600 hours and 2000 hours each day with all other events taking place between the hours of 0900 and 2200.

The Food Bazaar and the made-in Ghana Fair are an all week event, providing the opportunity for food stalls, craftsmen and designers’ of African clothing to exhibit their authentic products.

This well-calibrated event is part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the National Theatre and the expectation is that all would be there to experience the best of the nation’s culture.
