Accra, July 29, GNA – Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, Minister of Tourism, has urged the leadership of the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts sector to effectively utilise the GHC50million Fund announced by Government to revamp the industry.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to the growth of the sector, saying the goodwill informed the investments and packages developed for players in the sector to cushion them against the impacts of COVID-19.
She said the Fund would help revamp the sector to become buoyant and translate into Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product through job creation.
The meeting was to collate views on how to help practitioners in the industry access Government’s stimulus package as announced by the Minister for Finance at the Mid-year Budget review in Parliament.
She said the GHC50million earmarked by Government for the sector would cushion the industry and her outfit was engaging the Finance Ministry for modalities for players to access the Fund.
Mrs Oteng-Gyasi advised interested persons to liaise with the Ghana Revenue Authority to generate Tax Identification Number (TIN) to qualify for the package.
Mr. Divine Owusu-Ansah, World Bank Project Coordinator for the Tourism Ministry, said applicants for the package must be Ghanaians, registered with the Registrar- General’s Department, and must also register with the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Nana Atuo Owouhene Achampong, President of the Ghana Association of the Visual Artists, appealed to the Minister, to get a technical team to assist members access the Fund.
He expressed appreciation to the Government and the Sector Minister for the commitment to turn the fortunes of the industry.
