Accra, Oct. 18, 2018 (GNA) – The United Boxing Coaches Association (UBCAG) of Ghana, has rendered an unqualified apology to the entire boxing fraternity following the conduct of their member, Vincent Akai Nettey, in last Saturday’s crowd violence at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Super Bantamweight title fight between Isaac Sackey and Wasiru Mohammed, last Saturday, besieged the ring and attacked the referee who ended the bout, after Sackey was handed a knockout by his opponent.
But according to a statement copied to GNA Sports, by UBCAG, Mr. Nettey, coach of Sackey has showed remorse for his behaviour and should be forgiven for his act.
»We UBAG plead on behalf of the renowned coach, who for the past years has shown discipline and hardwork but unfortunately found himself as part of the recent situation that happened at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Oct. 13, 2018.
»Even though we found the situation very bad in Ghana Boxing, Nettey has shown remorse and has asked for forgiveness. Based on his past records we find it necessary to plead on his
behalf and we would make show that the uncalled for situation will not happen again, » the statement read.
Mr. Nettey, has also written to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), the management of the Trust Emporium and other stakeholders in boxing fraternity, apologizing for his actions and assured them that, such incident will not happen again
