MONROVIA, March 1 (LINA) – Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has donated US$700 to the junior national team (Under-17) ahead of their encounter against Ghana on Sunday.
The Liberia side will take on their Ghanaian counterparts in a 2020 FIFA Under-17 women’s World Cup qualifier at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) on March 1 in Central Monrovia.
Liberia defeated Niger 9-0 on aggregate in both legs in the preliminary round to set up this clash with Ghana, and the winner between Ghana and Liberia will play the winner between Guinea and Nigeria for a ticket to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup slated for November in India.
According to LFA official Facebook page, the Vice President of Liberia kind gesture towards the female national team (Under-17) is the way of contributing to the growth and development of female soccer in Liberia.
Also in a related development, the head coach of the junior National team of Liberia (Under-17), Jenkins Doe, has expressed gratitude to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) President, Mustapha Raji for the growth and development of soccer in the country.
« We are so happy to see you people coming to support the junior national team, and we are glad to see the way football is developing in Liberia.
The President of LFA is making everything possible to ensure Liberia football or league can be compared to others, especially to see female soccer players participate in the World Cup, is remarkable ». Doe said.
He added that the junior national team captain along with the players and the entire technical staff are in high spirit to go against Ghana on Sunday.
« Our team leader or captain for the junior National team Loretta Sackie has the characteristics that make one a good player. She has the diligence, tactics and skills as a good player and will lead the team against Ghana on Sunday, » Doe observed.
« We will be happy to see our people, preparing to support the junior national team, and we can assure you that the players will perform their duty, » Doe mentioned.
For her part, the junior national team captain, Loretta Sackie, also called on the general public to come in their numbers to cheer the Lone Star to victory against Ghana.
« I want to commend you for your support towards the national team. We will take on Ghana at the ATS, and your support will highly serve as motivation to us. We are prepared and in the motivation on the camp is too high. We can assure you nothing but victory tomorrow, » Sackie added.
