Koforidua, May 23, GNA-The Vocational Training for Females (VTF) a Presbyterian not-for-profit organisation has trained over 180 artisans on entrepreneurial skills business development to boost their businesses as well as income.

The participants included members of the Ghana National Dressmakers Association, Ghana Hairdressers and beauticians Associations and the National Refrigerators and Airconditioner Workshop Association under the umbrella of the Association of Small-scale Industries (ASI).

The five-day training formed part of series of activities and advocacy of the VTF to build capacities and knowledge of artisans and small scale enterprises in the informal sector for improved business and trade practices as well as incomes.

Participants at the training were taken through financial and record keeping management, customer care, entrepreneurial skills, business Registration and Taxation and Business Plan Development among others.

Mr Emmanuel Adentwi Jnr, Training officer at VTF said the informal sector was riddled with several challenges as players were not usually trained in any form of knowledge in entrepreneurial skills or business management.

The training was tailored to meet their needs to get the capacity to set up businesses or trades for sustainable livelihoods as well as boosting the local economies through the payment of appropriate taxes for national development.

M Seth Kissi, Eastern Regional secretary of ASI said most of the members of the various association had no formal education or training in business management and therefore tend to operate at a loss for lack of management skills.

He noted that the VTF had been consistent in supporting trade associations in the New Juaben North and South municipalities and mentioned provision of business start-up kits for over 100 artisans to reduce unemployment and commended them for their gesture.

Mr Kissi mentioned that through the efforts of VTF,many of their members had been able to set up their own shops with equipment while others had expanded their trading activities over the years.
