WAFA hold Kotoko in Obuasi

Accra, May 22, GNA – Asante Kotoko couldn’t capitalize on home advantage as they were held to 1-1 draw by West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in a match-week 26 encounter played at the Obuasi Sports Stadium.

The result meant Kotoko moved level on points (46) with arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak who won their week 26 fixture against Eleven Wonders on Friday.

Asante Kotoko started the game on the front foot and were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes after Andy Kumi was brought

down in the penalty area by WAFA goalkeeper.

Abdul Ganiyu stepped up from 12 yards and struck the home side in front.

The pressure from the home side was relentless as they searched for the cushion goal.

WAFA nearly restored parity on the half hour mark but goalkeeper Felix Annan who was making a rare start easily dealt with the feeble shot.

WAFA did grab the equalizer in first half added time after a ferocious header from Justice Torsutey as the first ended all square.

Kotoko in the second half were more determined as they pressed WAFA’s goal area for the lead.

WAFA were very disciplined in defence as they curtailed the attacking threats of the Porcupine Warriors.

Fabio Gama came close in restoring the lead for the home side but his header from close range was safely gathered by WAFA’s goal.

WAFA held on very firm as they shared the points with the Porcupine Warriors who dropped points at home.
