WASSCE 2022 Exams Results Released With 97.54% Passing Rate

MONROVIA, Aug. 11 (LINA) – The Head Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia Chapter has released provisional results for the 2022 edition of the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) showing improvement in the overall performance of candidates as compared to previous results.

The WAEC-Liberia boss has stated that the WASSCE Examinations for candidates was administered at 334 centers across the 15 counties from May31 to June 17, 2022, disclosing that the overall performance of the students at the passing rate of at least a subject on the examination is encouraging as compared to their counterparts who sat the same examinations nationally for the first time in 2018.

According to the preliminary results released by the WAEC-Liberia Head of National Office, Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, about 41,884, constituting 97.54% of the candidates, who sat the exam were successful.

The result also shows that the WASSCE candidates in 2022 performed best in English Language with the passing rate of 81.52%, the highest grade in percentage recorded in 2022, while History recorded the lowest passing rate in 2022 with the rate at 16.43%.

The 2022 WASSCE result also shows huge improvement in the performances of candidates in Geography with a whopping jump from 8.50% in 2021 to 66.50% in 2022.

Also, the grades of 2022 WASSCE candidates in biology increased drastically from 11.29% in 2020, 14.44% in 2021 to 75.50% in 2022.

In a related development, results in mathematics also improved steadily with the passing rate at 53.02% in 2020, 70.88% in 2021 and 77.43% in 2022.

Additionally, the performance of the students in Literature-in- English has also progressed with students recording 36.00% passing rate as compared to the previous years where students scored 14.11% passing rate in 2020 and 21.39% in 2021.

Meanwhile, results in Chemistry for the three years have shown fluctuation in student’s performances for 2020, 2021 and 2022 with passing grades at 13.51%, 5.33% and 15.35% respectively.

On the contrary, physics results, in the same three years, have shown an upward trend which stands at 14.92% in 2020, 22.22% in 2021 and 37.88% in 2022.

There have also been a huge improvement in the performance of WASSCE candidates in Economics in 2022, with passing rate arranged in ascending order from 29.45% in 2020, 29.79% in 2021 and 55.02% in 2022.

Meanwhile, the WAEC-Liberia boss, on behalf of the Secretariat of WAEC, has expressed its sincere gratitude to the President, the government and people of the Republic of Liberia, for the confidence they continue to repose in WACE to execute the mandate of the Council of Liberia.

He added that the Secretariat is immensely grateful to the government of Liberia for paying the fees for all candidates who sat the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCS) for School Candidates Examination (LJHSCE).

« The Secretariat wishes to assure the government and people of Liberia that it will continue to explore innovative ways of providing quality service delivery to the people of Liberia and the sub-region in the years ahead, » Mr. Gbotoe assured.

He asserted that the Secretariat also wishes to appreciate the Minister of Education, School Authorities, the Liberia National Police and other actors in the security sector, Liberia Revenue Authority, Management of the Roberts International Airport and the Free Port of Monrovia, Cuttington University, William R. Tolbert High School in Gbarlatuah, Supervisors, Proctors, Monitors, Examiners, Checkers, the Media, Auxiliary Staff, drivers, all candidates and their parents as well as all other stakeholders who supported and collaborated with the secretariat during the conduct of WAEC Examinations for school candidates in 2022.
