Water supply to part of the Greater Accra to be interrupted–GWCL

  20 Avril      44        Environnement/Eaux/Forêts (6473),

Tema, April 20, GNA – The Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on Tuesday announced the interruption of water supply to the eastern part of the Greater Accra Region from Thursday 22nd to Monday 26th of April 2021.

This is to pave way for engineers of the GWCL to replace 200 meters of a weak session of the main 42-inch transmission pipeline from Kpong to Tema around Gbetsele Junction.

A statement signed by Mr Stanley Martey, Chief Manager, Public Relations and Communications, GWCL, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the weak session of the transmission pipe-line was causing the GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily and consequently having a serious impact on the volumes available for consumers.

“Management is, as a result, entreating consumers in Accra, especially consumers in the eastern part of the metropolis to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shut-down,” the statement stated.

The areas include Afienya, Apollonia, Gbetsele, Ashaiman, Katamanso, Kakasunanka, AdjeiKojo, East Legon Trasaco, all communities in Tema (Community 1 to 25), Free Zones enclave, Tema Industrial Area, Dawhenya, Prampram, Spintex Road, Batsonaa, Coca Cola, Kasapreko, Manet, Lashibi, Klagon, Sakumono, and surrounding communities.

The company assured the public that the necessary equipment, logistics and personnel to execute the project had been secured.

It said, “as a result consumers are assured that, barring any unforeseen predicament, the project must be completed on schedule; and supply will resume immediately the project is completed.”

Meanwhile, to mitigate the impact of the interruption, the company noted that it had put in place measures to serve the affected areas to reduce the adverse impact.
