Ho, Aug. 3, GNA – Mr Richard Bonny, the Project Officer at Savana Signatures, a Non-Governmental Organization, has underscored the need for a well-designed programme for adolescent reproductive health education.
He said though young people were faced with many reproductive health issues, they were unable to find proper solutions to them because of lack of knowledge.
Mr Bonny was speaking at a day’s stakeholders consultative meeting on “reproductive health education for young people,” organised by Savana Signatures in Ho.
He said the session aimed at identifying reproductive health challenges confronting young people in society, factors contributing to the challenges and how best to address them.
Mr Bonny said equipping young people with the requisite knowledge on their reproductive health and how to address them appropriately would help in the reduction of teenage pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
The Project Officer said young people could extricate themselves from acts that tended to jeopardise their future if they were educated aware of the dangers posed to them.
Madam Victoria Kpelly, the Acting Director of Health Services, Ho Municipal, said the nation needed to place a premium on the reproductive health education for young people.
She said though the country did well about policies on reproductive health rights for young people, implementation had not been effective.
Madam Kpelly urged parents to give their children the needed training to enable them to become good citizens and to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
The session brought together stakeholders from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, Non-Governmental Organisations, Religious organisations and Traditional authorities and the National Commission for Civic Education.
