GHATUSA Games opens in Accra

Accra, Feb. 6, GNA – The maiden edition of Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games, has officially opened at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The games hosted by Accra Technical University (ATU), under the theme,  »Harnessing a meaningful role to promote sports through education » would witness a 10 day sporting fiesta, as the eight Technical Universities and the two Polytechnics (Wa and Bolgatanga) battle for honours, in nine sporting disciplines.

Professor Edmund Ameko, Vice- Chancellor of ATU, lauded the efforts of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) in making the games a reality.

 »The primary aim of GHATUSA is to create a forum through sports for social and cultural and intellectual interaction and the promotion of the spirit of friendship and unity in the future leaders of Ghana, » he stated.

He added that, various sporting disciplines should be fairly contested and called on the need for high standards of officiating throughout the games.

Professor Peter Twumasi, delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that,  »the organisational structure planned for this games unfolds Technical Universities and Polytechnics as the hub of the most dependable means of accelerating the integrity of National Sports agenda in our existing educational policies, » he stated.

Mr. Martin Owusu Amoamah, Charmain of the LOC, lauded various individuals who shown dedication and commitment towards the success of the games.

He also assured the athletes of comfortable stay in Accra and urged them to be disciplined while in camp.
