Accra, April 02, GNA-The Member of Parliament for Tema East, Mr Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus -Glover, has become the talk of town in Tema after pleasantly surprising everybody by headlining this year’s Kpeledzoo festival in the Industrial city.
Titus –Glover, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Transport, defied the norm in which State actors only participate in the Kpeledzoo as guests of honour, and led the various Kpeledzoo groups in chant dances (dzama) around the principal streets of Tema Manhean.
As the hands-on participation of the Deputy Minister was the first of its kind, the indigenes of Tema have since been praising the sense of belonging that their MP created in their hearts.
This year’s Kpeledzoo festival came off on Friday, with many colourful sights and sounds.
Among others, Titus Glover drew government heavyweights, including; Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, to the durbar grounds.
The Tema East MP also sponsored the apparels of the various Kpledzoo groups, sponsored a beer stand at the festival grounds, before leading the kpeledzoo groups himself.
As headliner of the Kpeledzoo dance, Titus-Glover handled the traditional flag for the occasion and carried a traditional stool for the area, across the principal streets of Tema Manhean, to the amazement of the people.
The Deputy Transport Minister’s dominance of the festival led to apprehension within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the sitting MP was outshining the whole of the NDC, which sent representatives.
Consequently, an Executive of the Tema East branch of the NDC, Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias ‘Moshake,’eventually joined him to lead the Kpeledzoo groups.
At the end of it all, the verdict was that, this year’s Kpeledzoo was made memorable by Titus- Glover.
To the credit of the MP, the majority of State heavyweights who attended the festival came at the invitation of Titus-Glover.
The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, who was one of them, used the opportunity to announce President Akufo-Addo’s intent to compensate the people of Tema Manhean for their dislocation from Tema Old Town due to the construction of the Tema Harbour.
The President, he said was keen on giving the people the needed compensation and was pursuing a policy to ensure that the indigenes received royalties from the various industrial fixtures in Tema.
Other heavyweights that attended the Kpeledzoo were; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, the MP for Kpone Katamanso, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, and the MP for Ablekuma Central who doubles as the Deputy Minister of interior, Henry Quartey Papafio among others.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tema, Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, together with the Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, observed that, Tema Manhean had only one route as its transport nerve and that the suburb needed additional roads.
According to them, Government had a plan to construct more roads for the area.
