Kumasi, Jan. 18, GNA – Academic work in basic schools in the Kumasi metropolis and its environs has begun in earnest following the reopening of schools by the government.
A visit to some schools in the metropolis and its environs by the Ghana News Agency indicated that pupils and teachers were ready for smooth academic work to go on.
Both pupils and teachers were seen wearing their nose masks while Veronica buckets filled with water and soap were placed in vantage points of the schools to enable both teachers and pupils to wash their hands.
Some of the schools have also placed hand sanitizers at vantage points for use by both teachers and pupils.
Madam Cecilia Oppong Kyekyeku, Headmistress of Ge-Jeop International School at Atonsu Bokro, told the GNA that both teachers and pupils have been sensitized on the need to strictly adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols as they resume academic work.
She said the school authorities have put in place safety measures for both students, teaching and non – teaching staff to prevent an outbreak of the virus and possible closure of school again.
Madam Kyekyeku said that due to the pandemic, the maximum number of pupils in each classroom had been reduced to 20.
“This is to adhere to the social distancing protocol in the school”, she told the GNA.
She appealed to parents and pupils not to fear or panic while in school but rather adhere to all the safety protocols to stay safe.
Madam Kyekyeku said management would continue to work hard with the teachers to make sure that every pupil followed the outlined safety protocols to curb the spread of the virus in the school.
At Ampabame D/A Junior High School, the Headmistress, Madam Frema Appau Bediako, told the GNA that all the necessary preventive measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of both pupils and teachers.
She said the pupils had stayed home for long and it was time they prepared themselves well for academic work.
“Students must encourage themselves, focus and study hard despite the existence of the pandemic”, she stated.
Madam Bediako added that the school had been provided with all the safety materials to help fight the pandemic in the school.
