Ho, Aug 17, GNA-The Claribel-Esther Foundation (CEF), a Hohoe-based registered not-for-profit organisation has taken delivery of a 40-footer container of medical supplies and equipment from the Gateway Medical Alliance International (GMA), USA.
The items totaling 859 pieces of medical supplies and 236 equipment were donated by GMA, a non-profit organisation, whose cardinal goal is, through strategic partnerships, to serve as a catalyst in improving the lives of the poor and disadvantaged by sharing healthcare resources worldwide.
Mr Greg Plett, Executive Director of GMA said the Alliance over the years has channeled medical relief items to various developing countries with the Claribel-Esther Foundation being the recipient of Ghana Container 135.
Mr John-Peter Amewu, Member of Parliament of Hohoe and partners contributed to the payment of customs duty and demurrage charges to clear the consignment from the Tema Port.
Mr Amewu, who doubles as MP for Hohoe Constituency and Minister for Railways Development is also the Chief Executive Officer of Claribel-Esther Foundation.
Mr Nicholas Harry Agbeli, the Administrator of the Foundation, explained to the Ghana News Agency that the humanitarian resources in the container would be donated to hospitals, clinics and health centres within the Hohoe Municipality and its environs.
He said a stakeholders’ meeting would be convened for the Board of Directors of the Foundation, representatives of Municipal Health Directorate, and the Municipal Assembly to come out with a roadmap for the distribution of the medical supplies and equipment, based on the ‘needs assessment report’ to be submitted by a team of health experts.
He said CEF, barely a year old, exists to provide social safe nets to the needy and the less privileged in targeted communities in health and poverty relief especially for the youth and the aged.
Apart from health projects, the Foundation is into education and vocational training of the youth and having organised a Scholars Programme of Claribel-Esther Foundation (CEF) in collaboration with AFEX Hub, a College Admissions Consultancy, which drew high achieving students from Hohoe Constituency with a goal of assisting their development into ethical leaders who will influence change and development in the constituency.
At the end of the structured as a residential bootcamp programme, nine out the 11 students who represent the first cohort of the CEF Scholars wrote the Scholastic Aptitude Test after which scholarships and admissions were secured for them to pursue various courses at prestigious Universities in the US.
