Rabat, 15/03/2023 (MAP) – Strengthening judicial cooperation and exchanging experiences between Morocco and Benin was the main focus of talks held Wednesday in Rabat between the First President of the Court of Cassation and President-Delegate of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, Mohamed Abdennabaoui, and the President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Benin, Victor Dassi Adossou.
In a statement to the press, Adossou said that these talks focused on the evaluation of the twinning agreement signed on 23 July 2009 between the two courts, as well as the study of new areas of cooperation in the context of strengthening legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries, adding that the efforts of these two high courts to build the rule of law and strengthen democracy in both Morocco and Benin « need no comment ».
After noting that Morocco and Benin are linked by historical relations of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation, Adossou noted that the two countries « have for many years given content to South-South cooperation.
He also stressed that his visit to Morocco is also an opportunity to exchange expertise between the judges of the Court of Cassation of the two countries in the field of jurisprudence, experiences and judicial practices in daily life, in order to « share experiences so that judges are at the rendezvous of building the rule of law and democracy in our two countries. »
For his part, the Deputy First President of the Court of Cassation, Mohamed Namiri, said that this meeting comes to deepen the close relationship between the two judicial institutions in the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Benin.
« It is time to implement the provisions of the twinning agreement and judicial cooperation » signed between the two courts, through « the amendment of some articles related to it to give it a new dynamism, he added.
It is also an exchange of jurisprudence between the two countries and documents related to judicial practice in general, he said.
