By T. Ezekiel Geeplay, Sinoe County Correspondent

GREENVILLE, Nov. 29 (LINA) – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has provided 1.2 million Euros in assistance to the Sinoe County School System to develop and improve the system.

The funding was provided through the intervention of the Ministry of Education following an appeal.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) via telephone on Tuesday, Marlyee Chiayed, Sinoe County Education Officer, said the money will be used to set up laboratories, renovate schools, undertake capacity building for teachers through training as well as construct new schools, especially in remote areas and also boost the manpower in classrooms.

The Sinoe County CEO indicated that land is available and that the county school system is preparing to implement basic school projects as prescribed by the county school board and management.

He disclosed that a total of 27 primary schools in six districts in the county are expected to be built with part of the UNIDO fund.

Chiayed added that the donor partner’s intervention is timely and worthy of praise, noting that for so long the county school system has been going through major challenges.

He then thanked UNIDO for the gesture, and assured that the money will be used for its intended purpose.

For his part, Mr. Joseph Nagbe, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) head in the county, thanked UNIDO for the support to the county school system and called on the stakeholders, including parents, to lend support to the successful implementation of the project..
