Para Powerlifting: Ezuruike optimistic of gold medal in World Championship

Abuja, Jan. 11, 2018 (NAN) Roland Ezuruike, 2018 Australia Commonwealth gold medalist is optimistic of a gold medal at the 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championship in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria..

Ezuruike, who is with the Nigerian contingent in a close camp in Lagos, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital that he was preparing hard ahead of the event.

The Powerlifter, who won a gold at the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) in 54kg category, said the NSF was a preparatory ground for him.

« I am getting ready for the championship. I have the right facilities to train with and I expect to do my best.

« Notable powerlifters across the globe would be present, so I have to show my worth, since the championship is on home soil.

« I am optimistic of a gold medal and by God’s grace I will get it, » he said.

The 43-year-old set a paralympics record in the men’s 54kg category after lifting 200kg at the 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio, Brazil.

The tournament in Lagos is billed for Jan. 28 to Jan. 30.
