African Road Cycling Championships in Accra: Morocco Wins Gold and Silver Medals in Individual Road Race

Accra, 17/02/2023 (MAP) – Moroccan cyclists Haitham El Amraoui and Mohamed Bouchfar won respectively gold and silver medals in the individual road race in the category of para-cycling, covered, Friday, over a distance of 36.6 km, as part of the African Road Cycling and Paracycling Championships, which are held from February 8 to 17, in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

On Thursday, Mohamed Bouchfar won the gold medal in the individual time trial (17.8 km) while his compatriot Haitham El Amraoui took the silver medal.

With this double victory, the total number of medals won by Morocco in this continental competition, the first of its kind, is four, including two gold and two silver.

Previously, the national team won four medals in road races, including a silver medal won by the junior team in the time trial (Achraf El Karimi, Saâd Ait Akbour, El Mahdi El Aarbaoui and Youssef El-Gherissi), and three bronze medals won by Achraf Ed Doghmy (individual road race), El Mahdi El Aarbaoui (junior individual race) and Raja Chaker (women’s time trial and under 23 years).
