Berry Ladies consolidates their lead on the NWPL league log

Accra, Jan. 31, GNA- Coach Mercy Quarcoo-Tagoe’s side, Berry Ladies rallied from behind to beat Sea Lions 2-1 in match-day three of the National Women’s Premier League at the Madina Astroturf in Accra on Saturday.

The much needed win gives the homers nine points from three matches to maintain their stay at the top of the league log whilst Sea Lions’ loss holds them at the bottom with three straight defeats.

It was the Cape Coast-based club, Sea Lions who took the lead early in the match in five minutes courtesy a goal from Alice Sarpong before the Berry’s highest goal scorer, Felicity Asante equalized 14 minutes from recess.

In the 27th minute, two opportunities came begging at the doorstep of Asante and Eugenia Tetteh but the visitors Goalie Martha Annan pulled it away to maintain her side’s lead.

From recess, the home team gathered the momentum and started pilling pressure on the visitors to emerge victorious.

It paid off with Asante capitalizing on a defensive blunder to register her name on the score sheet again.

When all hopes were dashed for the homers to amass all points Dorcas Kumiwah Addei scored an own goal making it 2-1 against Sea Lions in the 92nd minute.

Berry Ladies’ Nina Norshie who marshaled the midfield was adjudged the Nasco Player of the Match.

Berry would play guests to Police Ladies at the McDan La Town Park on day four fixtures whilst Sea Lions welcome Lady Strikers at the Nduom Sports stadium.

In other results in the Southern Zone, Hassacas Ladies pipped Thunder Queens with a lone goal courtesy of Perpetual Agyekum’s 65th-minute goal.

In the Northern Zone, Ampem Darkoa Ladies beat Fabulous Ladies 0-1 at away, Northern Ladies played a 1-1 drawn game with Prisons Ladies, with Ashtown defeating Kumasi Sports Academy with a lone goal whilst Pearlpia registered a 2-1 win over Supreme ladies.
