“Despite all of these challenges, Liberia is the only country within West Africa in the upper Guinea forest ecosystem with the potential to provide climate stability for the entire region”, Tarpeh asserted.

According to hom, this makes Liberia one of the countries in the world with the deepest carbon sink or carbon sponge.

Liberia’s abundance of water, sunshine and bimorph sources hold great potential for profited reduction and sustainable development, it is against this backdrop, that the National Conference on climate change and the environment will ensure efforts in enforcing Liberia’s commitment to sustainable development, including the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) aimed at addressing climate change from mitigation and adaptation standpoint as well as strengthening compliance and enforcement of the Environmental Protection Management Law of Liberia.

The NDCs are the height of the Paris Climate Agreement, where Liberia joined the Paris Accor in 2015 and in 2018, and the legislature ratified the agreement.
