Job seekers advised to acquire digital skills

Accra, Sept. 13, GNA –Mr Anthony Twum Barima, a Senior Programmes Manager at Microsoft has advised job seekers to make themselves relevant during the period of job-seeking and acquire digital skills.

He said that would position them appropriately for available jobs in the world.

Mr Twum Barima, was speaking at the second edition of the annual Accra Digital Jobs Fair, organised by Ghana Tech Lab and Zongovation Hub in Accra.

The event was on the theme, ‘‘Building Resilient Creatives for the Job Market’’ and was held at the Accra Digital Center.

‘‘To ensure that you are relevant, you need to scale up and take advantage of opportunities that are available,’’ he said.

Mr. Twum Barima said the world was in the digital era and that people looking for jobs needed to catch up with the trends to access available jobs.

‘‘Set new goals for yourself, learn new trends in the technology industry, acquire basic skills such as coding, and do not be afraid to seek freelance opportunities when you are looking for a job,’’ he advised the participants.

Mr Andrew Akoto Addo, Investment Associate, Ghana Tech Lab., said his Organisation was leading a drive towards Ghana’s digital transformation.

“In partnership with Mastercard Foundation, the Company is rolling out the Pathways for Sustainable Employment Project, which is aimed at creating three million jobs for the youth across the country by 2030.

‘‘Together with 17 partner hubs across all 16 regions of the country, GTL organises the Base program which is aimed at empowering youth with Digital skills annually,’’ he added.

He said this year’s cohorts were trained in Digital Media and that the Job Fair was part of the employability aspect of the programme to connect trainees to job opportunities.

‘‘In the light of creating jobs, this Digital Job Fair is aimed at connecting and linking youth to job opportunities and also to network,’’ he said.
