Nairobi – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Kenya have agreed to strengthen cooperation ties between the public prosecutors’ offices of the two countries, especially in the judicial field.
A memorandum of understanding was signed, Tuesday in Nairobi, between the King’s Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, El Hassan Daki, and Director of the Attorney General’s Office of Kenya, Noordin Mohamed Haji.
This memorandum aims at developing the ties of understanding, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two institutions, especially in the judicial field. It is based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and common benefit in respect of the judicial systems of both countries, as well as international conventions.
The agreement is able to strengthen the establishment of general relations and cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, such as cybercrime, corruption, money laundering, drug trafficking and trafficking in human beings.
Under this memorandum of understanding, signed in the presence of several judicial and diplomatic personalities, including the ambassador of His Majesty the King in Kenya, Abderrazzak Laassel, the two parties undertake to cooperate in several areas, such as exchanging official visits on all levels to maintain and consolidate the friendship and common understanding, strengthening cooperation in training members of the prosecutors’ offices, as well as organizing forums and thematic conferences related to the professional skills of both parties.
In a statement to MAP, Daki said that the signing of this memorandum follows a series of dialogues with his Kenyan counterpart Noordin Haji, during the latter’s visit to the Kingdom, explaining that it reflects the common visions of both parties for areas of cooperation.
This is a first step in the process of implementing bilateral judicial cooperation, he stressed, noting that the goal is to strengthen cooperation in the criminal field, especially in the fight against organized crime, and develop mechanisms for action between the two institutions.
In this sense, Daki referred to the challenges posed by new technologies and modern means of communication in the fight against crime.
