Accra, June 30, GNA – Kenyan long distance runner, Samuel Mungara has vowed to win the 2018 Millennium Marathon scheduled for Saturday, September 22, 2018 in Accra.

The Millennium Marathon promises to be exciting and competitive, as it would attract several athletes all over the world competing for the glory.

Mungara arrived in Ghana on Thursday, for the first time prior to the pre-race and the main Millennium Marathon.

The superstar visited the Ministry of Youth and Sports, where he met some executive staffs of the ministry, as well as the Daily Graphic, Royal Habitat and MenzGold who are all partnering the event.

Speaking to the GNA Sports, Mungara hinted that the reason why East Africa is excelling in athletics was that government was investing more in the sport.

He noted that Kenya has a lot of training camps, where athletes were trained and prepared for competitions.

« The training camps are where we nurture the talents. So when you are performing well there are some trials organized by some Banks and the National Athletics Association and those who win are made to represent the country.

They (Athletes) are also supported to run in Europe and that has been our success. »

« I am very glad to be in Ghana. All you need as an athlete is to believe in yourself and put in pressure to get there.
