Sierra Leone to Embark on Massive Agricultural Production

SLENA, 12th October, 2023). The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Musa Kpaka disclosed to pressmen that, Sierra Leone is going to embark on massive agricultural production in the coming years in order to achieve Cluster one of the Big Five Changers.
He made this disclosure during the Weekly Government Press Briefing which was hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooporation, Tower Hill, Freetown.
He went on to state that, if Africa or Sierra Leone did not prepare to grow its Food, then the continent and Sierra Leone would go hungry.

Informing the Media, Dr. Musa Kpaka reiterated that during the advent of COVID-19, the food supply chain network was blocked and there was an increase in prices especially for imported food items which increased thrice.
He  noted that, his Ministry has encouraged the private sector and has assured them of  providing funds to them to buy seeds and fertilizers adding that, tractors are set to be distributed  in 15 centres.
Minister Kpaka emphasized that, between 2021 and 2022, there was 21%  chunk of rice productions in the country.
He concluded that his Ministry has engaged  stakeholders nationwide and has also visited farms overseas.
