Sierra Leonean gets Executive seat at Africa Swimming Confederation (CANA) Zone Two

(SLENA, 4th June, 2022). On the 28th of May, 2022 in Dakar Senegal, in the last General Assembly of CANA, the President of the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo Association (SLSDWA) Mohamed Abdul Turay was elected in absentia as one of the executive members of CANA Zone two. The Zone two membership comprised of 22 members.
In an interview with him on this medium, Mohamed explained that during the last assembly of the Confederation at regional level, the members deemed it necessary to elects new executive into the bureau to carry on the administrative duty of the association and its term of office which will commence from 2022 to 2026. During the election in Dakar, Mohamed Abdul Turay was voted in as one of the member of the Executive bureau for the next four years. When asked why was he voted in as executive member of CANA?
“I was elected because of the outstanding performances of the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo Association over the years, especially with two recent happenings. One FINA ranked SLSDWA as one of the most structure sporting discipline in the world. They said we’re highly of governance structure”. He noted
Turay went on to say that, President Bio recognised the association as one of the sporting disciplines that represent Sierra Leone internationally with success.
“Also, during the State Opening of the fifth sessions of the fifth Parliament of the second Republic, when His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio was giving his speech to Parliament, he mentioned the Swimming Association as one of the sporting disciplines that has brought integrity to Sierra Leone. The social media messages of the successes of the association globally also enhance me to be elected as executive member of CANA Zone Two”. Turay concluded.
The Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association (SLSDWA) is the national body for all Aquatic sports in Sierra Leone.
African Swimming Confederation (CANA) is the African Swimming Confederation: ConfédérationAfricaine de Natation. It is the Continental Association charged with overseeing swimming for Africa. CANA was founded in 1970, with 7 members. By 2008 it had 43 members.
