Veep Taylor Highlights Education As Dr. Kandakai Launches Book

MONROVIA, Nov. 24, (LINA) – Vice President Madam Jewel Howard Taylor has said that education is important because it is the means by which poverty, gossip, ignorance and disease can be eliminated.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of a book, « Liberia Accelerated: Education For Accelerated Development, » which was authored by Dr. Evelyn S. Kandakai, Madam Taylor stressed the need to make education part of our national value because it brings about unity and trust amongst people.

The Cheif Launcher made the assertion at the Career Pathway hall, Women Center in Sinkor during the week, saying that if people are not educated, they will not know the role of the legislature and even the judiciary or the government working mechanism.

According to her, because Nelson Mandela was educated, he successfully advocated against apartheid in South Africa, adding that where is our Nelson Mandela in Liberia.

She indicated that the book is a significant asset, and hope that many people will get to read it as a set a basic for Liberia leaders to see, lauding Dr. Kandakai for the great national work.

For her part, the author of Liberia Accelerated: Education for Accelerated Development, Dr. Evelyn Kandakai disclosed that the killing of a black man, George Floyd by police officers was what motivated her to have written the book.

She then thanked Madam Taylor for leaving her busy schedule to attend the program, which was a successful one.

For her part, Sister Mary Laurene Browne, the former president for Stella- Maris Polythecnic, who served as Co-launcher commended Dr. Kandakai for her numerous contributions to the educational sector of Liberia.

She stated that she trust her educational ability because they have worked together in the field of education years back, saying that she’s a good educator who has passion for the field.

The former president of the Stella-Maris Polythecnic maintained that due to her qualifications and dutiful, she served as the Minister of Education twice under two administrations where she made marks when it comes to execution of educational policies in the country.
