MONROVIA, April 10 (LINA) – Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has renewed her advocacy on the need for more women to participate in the governance process of nations as well as non-governmental organizations and the civil society.
She said it has become evident that nations or organizations who renege on the full utilization of the capacities of women are highly likely to fail in their plans or objectives, which could lead them to underachievement.
The Vice President made the statement in Accra, Ghana, where she recently served as keynote speaker of the 6th Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Africa regional conference.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page, VP Taylor reminded those who perceive that the inclusion of women is not important to look at some of the « glaring realities of innovation, commitment and profits the female brings to the configuration. »
The conference was themed: « Roles of Women in Harnessing the Potential of Africa’s Blue Economy, » and highlighted the blue economy, inter and intra trade and opportunities within the maritime domain of Africa.
The Liberian vice president is an icon for Liberian women and a serial voice for change and progress of the country.
She won the senatorial seat of Bong County on the National Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket in 2005 and was re-elected in 2014.
In the 2017 electoral period, she was chosen as running mate by now President George Weah after her party along with the Liberia People Democratic Party opted to form a Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) with Weah’s party to democratically oust the Unity Party from power.
